U.S.-Russian Collaboration in Addressing Access by Violent Extremists to Nuclear, Radiological, Biological, and Chemical Terrorism: A Workshop Series

An ad hoc committee, comprised of American and Russian specialists, will organize a series of five workshops to examine the potential use by violent extremists of weapons of mass destruction (WMD), including nuclear, radiological, biological, and chemical weapons. Workshop participants from the two countries will provide individual assessments of political, economic, and social environments wherein illicit activity has been or could be readily undertaken and will discuss promising practices that may help reduce the risk of such activity in regions of the world of particular interest to the United States and Russia.

Description

An ad hoc committee, comprised of American and Russian specialists, will organize a series of five workshops to examine the potential use by violent extremists of weapons of mass destruction (WMD), including nuclear, radiological, biological, and chemical weapons. Workshop participants from the two countries will provide individual assessments of political, economic, and social environments wherein illicit activity has been or could be readily undertaken and will discuss promising practices that may help reduce the risk of such activity in regions of the world of particular interest to the United States and Russia. Workshop presentations will also highlight important ongoing and planned research and analytical effors in the United States and Russia that are relevant to the WMD terrorism threat, and when appropriate the threats in other countries as well.
Proceedings will be issued for two of the workshops.
