Description
A planning committee of the National Academy of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine will organize a workshop on Preserving and Developing Ukraine's Human Capital in Research, Education, and Innovation. Participants will include recognized experts in the design, implementation, and funding of scientific research initiatives, particularly those involving international cooperation; science and technology workforce development; and programs to manage and strengthen national systems of research, higher education and innovation.
Participants will identify and discuss prioritization of programmatic initiatives to support research and training efforts for Ukrainian scientists, engineers, managers and policymakers in Ukraine. Because scientific and technological advances will drive many of Ukraine's future national security and economic growth decisions, the goal of this workshop is to strengthen the capacity within Ukraine to establish and maintain a robust science and innovation system that supports basic and applied research, trains the next generation of scientists and engineers, and provides mechanisms for S&T decision-making and advice to government policymakers.
Recognized experts will speak about the best approaches for establishing flexible, impactful and sustainable programs to preserve and develop human capital in research, and in building and managing a modern national research system. Programs that involve international partnerships and can be launched quickly will be given special emphasis. A Proceedings in Brief will be published following the workshop.
