Description

A planning committee of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine will organize and conduct a series of short public workshops that explore diversity, equity, inclusion (DEI) and racism across the spectrum of health professions education--from the pathway into the health professions, to curricula in health professional education, to the clinical learning environment, to continuing professional development. The planning committee will bring together a diverse group of educators, students, administrators, and health professionals to discuss what it would take to eliminate racism and discrimination within the health professions and education. Health professionals, educators, and learners will be invited to share ideas and educational materials using convening mechanisms that maximize sharing across professions, sectors, and educational level, and provide the spark for initiating DEI and anti-racism curricula and structures. The planning committee will select and invite speakers and discussants, and moderate the discussions at the workshops. Based on the presentations and discussions at the workshops, materials targeted more directly toward education will be prepared by a designated rapporteur in accordance with institutional guidelines.
