In formation

The workshop on AI Infrastructure to Accelerate AI Convergence and Catalyze U.S. Scientific Innovation: A Workshop was held on June 17 and 18, 2025.

Description

A planning committee of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine will convene multi-sector and cross-cutting experts in a workshop to explore the infrastructure necessary to enable the swift and widespread commercialization of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. Participants will identify the policies, partnerships, and infrastructure development strategies that can accelerate the deployment of AI in critical sectors, such as healthcare, manufacturing, and national security.
Discussion topics will include:

  • Policies to support and accelerate the convergence of AI and high-performance computing (HPC);
  • Developing robust commercialization pathways for emerging technologies in AI and HPC;
  • Operationalizing agentic AI systems across various sectors, including research automation, robotics, manufacturing, and healthcare; and
  • Infrastructure needs to support the convergence of AI with HPC and quantum technologies.

A written and an interactive proceedings-in-brief summarizing workshop discussions will be prepared by an Academies rapporteur and published.
