Mathematical Sciences Education Board

The Mathematical Sciences Education Board is responsible for programs and activities that provide guidance at the national level that brings to bear high-level and balanced expertise from the mathematical sciences research and education communities and their stakeholders on a broad range of issues related to mathematical education.

Description

The Mathematical Sciences Education Board will be responsible for programs and activities that provide guidance at the national level that brings to bear high-level and balanced expertise from the mathematical sciences research and education communities and their stakeholders on a broad range of issues related to mathematical education. Specifically, the board will provide
- Leadership for continuing efforts to improve and evaluate mathematical sciences education nationally at all levels of education, including preK-12, undergraduate, and graduate levels;
- A venue for dialogue between the mathematical sciences research and application communities and the mathematical sciences education communities;
- Opportunities for improved coordination among existing mathematical sciences education organizations and projects; and
- Opportunities for improved coordination and alignment for initiatives and expectations across mathematical sciences research communities and mathematical sciences education research, policy and practice communities, spanning all levels of education.
Projects conducted under the auspices of the board may provide
- Evidence-based guidance for improving mathematical sciences education at all levels for all students;
- Advice to federal, state, and local agencies as well as academic institutions on long-range goals and needs in mathematical sciences education, especially with the rapidly-changing missions, capabilities, and character of the mathematical sciences and related changes in career opportunities involving mathematical and statistical knowledge; and
- Guidance on strengthening the infrastructure of mathematics education and mathematics education research.
