Doing More with Less: Efficient Approaches to Data Scarcity

This symposium will explore creative statistical methods for combining data to navigate incomplete records, work in low-resource settings, and characterize rare events. Panelists will discuss techniques for working with minimal labeled data, adding supplemental observations, fusing disparate data sets, and filling in the gaps with synthetic data, as well as the challenges that such methods pose.

Join the National Academies on June 12, 2025 from 1:30-5pm ET for a symposium that examines how to make the most of scarce data. Panelists include Jane Pinelis (Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory), Tianxi Cai (Harvard University), Aleksandra Slavkovic (Penn State), Lin Ge (Harvard University). Committee member Scott Holan (University of Missouri) will moderate.
