Roundtable on Aligning Incentives for Open Scholarship

The Roundtable on Aligning Incentives for Open Science was launched in 2019 to help shift incentives to better recognize and reward research ecellence, integrity, and transparency. The Roundtable convenes stakeholders to review the effectiveness of current incentives, barriers to adopting new practices, and ways to move forward in aligning reward structures and institutional values.

During 2025 and 2026, the Roundtable is launching new initiatives that will catalyze action and strengthen connections within the open science community. The Roundtable will meet regularly, organize occasional public workshops, and support the work of action groups that develop and advance initiatives between Roundtable meetings.

Description

In order to increase the contribution of Open Science to producing better science, the Roundtable on Aligning Incentives for Open Scholarship will convene critical stakeholders from universities, funding agencies, societies, foundations, and industry to discuss the effectiveness of current incentives for adopting Open Scholarship practices, current barriers and disincentives of all types, and ways to move forward in order to align incentives and institutional values to promote the growth of sustainable, equitable open scholarship policies and practices. The Roundtable will convene two times per year and create a venue for exchange of ideas and a mechanism for joint strategic planning among key stakeholders. All activities of the Roundtable will be conducted in accordance with institutional guidelines described in "Roundtables: Policy and Procedures."
