Past
Unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) activity is expanding. These rapid and large-scale changes may affect the safety of people and property. TRB hosted a webinar on Tuesday, April 27, 2021 from 2:00 to 3:30 PM Eastern that addressed the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration’s integration efforts, which have direct implications for airport operators. These integration efforts include counter-UAS mechanisms, remote identification and tracking, and airspace authorization waivers. Presenters suggested specific planning, operational, and infrastructure guidelines to safely integrate existing and anticipated UAS operations into an airport environment. This was the second in a two-part webinar series that follows The Day of the Drones: Airports and Unmanned Aircraft Systems, Part 1.
The webinar featured research from ACRP Research Report 212, Volume 2: Planning Guidebook, and Volume 3: Potential Use of UAS by Airport Operators.
The slides and recorded webinar are available.
Webinar agenda and presenters:
- Planning for UAS and applications by airports: Chris Fernando, QS-2
- Asset and facility management with UAS: Glady Singh, AkitaBox
- UAS integration at Syracuse Hancock International Airport: Jason Terreri, Syracuse Hancock International Airport
- Question and answer session: Moderated by Heather Hasper, DHJ Alaska
The first 60 minutes of the webinar will be for presentations and the final 30 minutes will be reserved for audience questions.
