The TRB Long-Term Pavement Performance Committee, acting through the National Research Council, will advise the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) on the planning and execution of the Long-Term Pavement Performance (LTPP) studies. The LTPP studies are a set of operational activities consisting of gathering and analyzing data that is being collected on more than 2000 in-service pavements in the United States and Canada. The principal objective of this data collection and analysis is to further the understanding of how and why pavements deteriorate when subjected to traffic loadings and environmental conditions. Data collection and analysis began in 1987 and will continue through 2009. The committee will also prepare reports, including letter reports, containing the committee's evaluations and suggested mechanisms to enhance the utility to the states of the studies' outcomes.The Expert Task Group (ETG) on LTPP Special Activities is a subsidiary committee of the TRB LTPP Committee. It is established to advise the TRB LTPP Committee on matters related to collection, processing, uploading into the LTPP database, and analysis of all data other than traffic data recorded at or determined from samples collected at LTPP test sites throughout North America. The ETG provides comments and advice intended to help solve operational problems encountered in these activities. The work of the ETG is intended to facilitate the accumulation in the LTPP database of high-quality data in quantities sufficient to support LTPP analysis projects. These projects are designed to produce outcomes that lead to products addressing the high-priority pavement-related needs of state highway departments. The work of the ETG also includes reviewing the plans, activities, and progress of LTPP's data analysis and product development activities, and reporting its findings and suggestions to the TRB LTPP Committee.The project is sponsored by the Federal Highway Administration.The approximate start date for the project is March 30, 2007.Update 10/19/2009 - Terminations of James K.
