Description
The Board on Science Education (BOSE) at the National Research Council (NRC) proposes to develop a “primer” for practitioners based on the NRC consensus study “Developing Assessments for the Next Generation Science Standards” (NRC, 2014) aimed at teachers, administrators and professional development providers. The consensus study provides guidance on developing assessments that are consistent with the NGSS including assessments tied to classroom instruction and assessment systems used for accountability. The primer for teachers will summarize the conclusions and recommendations of the consensus study in accessible language. It will provide a more detailed discussion of classroom-based assessment drawing on the relevant chapters in the consensus study.
