An ad hoc committee will plan a two-day public workshop to examine best practices in developing, executing, evaluating, and sustaining public-private partnerships for global health and safety through an exploration of large and small-scale partnership models and both their successes and failures. The workshop will include relevant perspectives from both the private and public sectors, and the workshop discussions will focus on best practices and lessons learned from experiences of established partnerships in global health and safety, while also exploring opportunities for innovation in partnerships. To these ends, the workshop will feature invited presentations and discussions to explore the following questions:

1) What is the value of partnerships for improving global health and safety, particularly in low- and middle-income countries?

2) Why are those in both the private and public sectors motivated to engage in partnerships? What unique resources does each participant bring to the partnership and what resources do they expect the other members of the partnership to bring?

3) How do members of partnerships work towards confluence of goals and objectives? How are real or perceived conflicts of interest managed?

4) What capacities are needed to make a partnership successful? How is success being defined?

5) How are partnerships measuring their impact on their stated goals and objectives? How can impact evaluation of partnerships be improved, as well as measurement of partner capacities to keep them functional?

6) What are the challenges with sustaining partnerships, and how have they been overcome?

The committee will develop the workshop agenda, select and invite speakers and discussants, and moderate the discussions. An individually-authored summary of the presentations and discussions at the workshop will be prepared by a designated rapporteur in accordance with institutional guidelines.
