On Tuesday, February 9, National Academies facilities in Washington, DC will be closed.
Staff and visitors may call 202-337-8566 to hear a recorded message concerning the operational status of the National Academies in the D.C. area, including information on any facility closings or restrictions on operations as a result of inclement weather, disaster, or other emergency.
Local television and radio stations may also be a source of information about operational status if Web and telephone access are unavailable.
WEEKENDS: In case of inclement weather, participants in weekend activities should contact the event organizer.

PREPARATIONS FOR H1N1 (SWINE) FLU: Internal communications regarding our preparations, safeguards, and changes to normal operating procedures connected to the spread of the H1N1 flu will be distributed via All Staff bulletins posted to AcademyNet and sent via e-mail to each employee’s work account. All Staff bulletins will also be available by clicking “Operating Status” on this Web site, www.nationalacademies.org. Staff should also remember the following:
- • You may need to be able to view All Staff bulletins and this Web site away from work.
- • If you have access to the Internet at home, please test your ability to access your National Academies e-mail now via hermes.nas.edu or VPN. If you do not currently use hermes.nas.edu or VPN, please contact your IT analyst for training and setup.
- Employees who do not have access to the Internet away from the office will be able to call the National Academies’ Operating Hotline at 202-337-8566 for recorded updates on important developments.
