Past
Older workers are retiring in droves, and new employees are not entering the aviation workforce swiftly enough to replace those leaving. TRB hosted a webinar on Thursday, August 6, 2020 from 2:00 to 3:30 PM Eastern that identified ways to address the labor shortage by fostering the next generation of aviation professionals, including pilots, mechanics, and airport managers. This webinar discussed engaging students by piquing their interest in the aviation industry at a young age. Presenters highlighted activities that state agencies, airports, and educators may use to develop and sustain strategies that promote aviation as a career. They also explained how these activities can be adapted to fit any agency’s budget, skill set, and audience.
The webinar features research from ACRP Report 202: Developing Innovative Strategies for Aviation Education and Participation and ACRP Synthesis 103: Promoting Aviation Career Education in High Schools and Community Colleges.
