August 26, 2021

1:00 PM - 3:00 PM (EDT)

Past

Low-Density Cellular Concrete (LDCC) use has seen quite a rise among a multitude of transportation projects. TRB hosted a webinar on Thursday, August 26, 2021 that discussed the current uses and design techniques of LDCC. Presenters examined how utilizing LDCC can speed up overall construction schedules and reduce costs.

This webinar was organized by the Standing Technical Committee on Transportation Earthworks.

The slides are linked in the meeting materials below. Click here to view the recording.

Webinar agenda and presenters

  1. Summary of applications: Binod Tiwari, California State University, Fullerton
  2. Review of current design methods for Mechanically Stabilized Earth (MSE) walls backfilled with LDCC: Keith Brabant, Reinforced Earth Company
  3. Using permeable LDCC to increase road elevation: Robert Parsons, The University of Kansas
  4. Large-scale testing of LDCC backfill: Kyle Rollins, Brigham Young University
  5. Question and answer session: Moderated by Jesse Rauser, Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development

The first 90 minutes of the webinar will be for presentations and the final 30 minutes will be reserved for audience questions.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe how to use LDCC to increase road elevation and test LDCC backfill
  2. Identify current design methods of LDCC
