TRB Webinar: New Era in Data Analytics for Bridge Foundation Design

October 18, 2022

2:30 PM - 4:00 PM (EDT)

Past

Data and data analytics are critical to the future of bridge foundation design and performance. TRB hosted a webinar on Tuesday, October 18, 2022 from 2:30 PM to 4:00 PM Eastern that focused on three areas important to the future of bridge foundation design--reducing risk, site characteristics and its prediction for foundation design using emerging technologies, and geotechnical data storage and management and its importance.

This webinar was related to Workshop 1436 Exploring the Role of Data Interchange and Artificial Intelligence in Future Bridge and Foundation Design, Performance and Resiliency as presented at TRB’s 2022 Annual Meeting.

This webinar was sponsored by the TRB Standing Technical Committee on Foundations of Bridges and Other Structures.

The slides are linked in the meeting materials. View the recorded webinar below.

Webinar agenda and presenters

  • Reducing risk in bridge foundation design by leveraging modern design tools and large volumes of high-quality geotechnical data – Nick Machairas, Haley and Aldrich Inc.
  • Importance of historic geotechnical data for prediction of site characteristics using machine learning – Houda Jadi, Geosetta
  • Lifetime of geotechnical data in bridge projects – Allen Cadden, Schnabel Engineering
  • Question and answer session moderated by Sharid Amiri, California Department of Transportation

The first 60 minutes of the webinar were for presentations and the final 30 minutes were reserved for audience questions.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this webinar, participants can:

  • Outline ways to reduce risk in bridge foundation design
  • Define the role geotechnical data plays in future bridge foundation design
