TRB Webinar: Unleashing the Power of Fusion in Travel Demand Analysis

July 12, 2023

12:00 PM - 1:30 PM (EDT)

Past

Travel demand analysis requires a review of multiple data sources and using a fusion approach can help unravel the complexities that shape travel choices. TRB hosted a webinar on Wednesday, July 12, 2023 from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM Eastern that showcased three state-of-the-art data fusion innovations for travel demand modeling. Presenters addressed travel choice predictions by inferring missing alternative attributes, understanding electric vehicles (EVs) adoption patterns, and evaluating the impacts of the pandemic on passenger travel demands.

This webinar was sponsored by TRB’s Standing Technical Committee on Traveler Behavior and Values.

The slides are linked in the meeting materials. View the recorded webinar below.

Webinar agenda and presenters

  1. Pooling revealed preference and stated preference choice data to infer missing attributes – Abdul Rawoof Pinjari, Indian Institute of Science

  2. Maximum-likelihood-based data fusion approach: Application to EV adoption – Naveen Eluru, University of Central Florida

  3. Fusion by design: Evaluate the impacts of COVID-19 on passenger travel demands – Sanjana Hossain, University of Toronto and Northwestern University

  4. Question and answer session moderated by Khandker Nurul Habib, University of Toronto

The first 60 minutes of the webinar were for presentations and the final 30 minutes were reserved for audience questions.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this webinar, participants can:

  1. Identify data sources for potential fusion

  2. Pool data efficiently for fusion exercises

  3. Determine the appropriate fusion methodology for modeling
