This event will bring together the research, practice, policy, and philanthropic communities to take stock of the progress made in informal science and engineering education over the past 15 years since the release of the National Academies’ report Learning Science in Informal Environments.
Reports Scheduled for Release in June
Release dates for reports and proceedings from the National Academies depend on successful completion of the review process and publishing schedules. Reporters who would like to be notified when a report is due for release should contact the Office of News and Public Information (e-mail news@nas.edu) and ask to be placed on a contact list.
Elementary Particle Physics: Progress and Promise
The report will help federal agencies, policymakers, and academic leadership understand the future prospects for and societal benefits of particle physics research in the U.S. and make informed decisions about funding, workforce, and research directions.
Off-Lake Sources of Airborne Dust in Owens Valley, California
This report will summarize the nature and character of off-lake sources of airborne dust in the Owens Valley in California, recommend how to better characterize and track changes in their airborne dust contributions, and describe possible dust control measures.
Sickle Cell Disease in Social Security Disability Evaluations: Pain and Treatment Settings (Interim Report)
This interim report will share the study committee’s findings and conclusions thus far regarding hospitalizations and the use of narcotic pain medications in sickle cell disease. The final report, expected later this year, will examine best practices and community experiences with managing and treating sickle cell disease.
