Drug research and development stakeholders will consider what expertise and which disciplines will be able to meet the needs of a transformed clinical trials system by 2030, and can better support evolving needs in drug discovery, development, and translation. Participants will also consider what is needed to support a future workforce that is resilient, culturally aware, and interdisciplinary.
Innovations in Regenerative Medicine Manufacturing

This workshop will explore challenges and opportunities in manufacturing regenerative medicine therapeutics — including cell- and gene-based therapies — as the field evolves to produce and deliver a higher volume of treatments to patients. Presentations will discuss innovations such as decentralized manufacturing, closed systems, automation, and more.
Atmospheric Methane Removal: Needs, Challenges, and Opportunities

This workshop will be an opportunity for experts to discuss the need for atmospheric methane removal; the potential, risks, and co-benefits of viable technological options; and research gaps that could improve understanding. Information gathered during the workshop will be used to inform an upcoming National Academies report.
Airport Programs to Combat Human Trafficking

Presenters at this webinar will explore information and processes to help airports, and provide an overview of tools to establish or expand human trafficking prevention programs.

Implantable Brain Stimulation to Treat Central Nervous System Disorders

Experts from academia, industry, government, and disease-focused nonprofits will explore barriers to adopting implantable brain stimulation devices into the standard of care for central nervous system disorders — such as Alzheimer’s disease, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, and epilepsy. The workshop will review the current state of evidence, discuss ethical and equity implications, and opportunities to enhance clinician and patient education.

Release dates for the following consensus reports and proceedings from the National Academies depend on successful completion of the review process and publishing schedules. Reporters who would like to be notified when a report is due for release should contact the Office of News and Public Information (e-mail news@nas.edu) and ask to be placed on a contact list.
Accelerating Decarbonization in the United States: Technology, Policy, and Societal Dimensions
This report analyzes the impact of recent federal climate legislation, identifies gaps and barriers to implementation of net-zero policies, examines the status of societal and technological factors, and makes recommendations for comprehensive climate action by the private sector and all levels of government for the nation to reach net-zero emissions by 2050.
Assessing the 2020 Census: Final Report
This report evaluates the quality of the data from the 2020 census and makes recommendations for further research by the Census Bureau to begin planning the 2030 census. The recommendations will come from a review of information from the Census Bureau on the data collected as well as various process measures and indicators of data quality and will compare to similar indicators from the 2010 and 2000 censuses.
A Roadmap for Disclosure Avoidance in the Survey of Income and Program Participation
This report reviews the protection and release of public use data from the Survey of Income and Program Participation (SIPP), including privacy risks for releasing data, the linking of SIPP data with other administrative data, and formal privacy methods being implemented at the Census Bureau.
