Committee on Toxicology

Established in 1947, the Committee on Toxicology has provided oversight of studies on environmental and occupational health issues bearing on the mission of the Department of Defense. Types studies undertaken by ad hoc committees include reviews of research programs, site-specific environmental health assessments, and development of occupational exposure guidelines for military-specific scenarios. The committee is comprised of nationally recognized experts in toxicology, infectious disease, epidemiology, industrial hygiene, occupational health, and risk assessment.

Description

The Committee on Toxicology (COT) provides oversight of studies on environmental and occupational health issues requested under a contract with the Department of Defense (DoD). COT meets at least once a year to review the progress of ad hoc study committees and to get updates on the environmental and occupational health challenges facing DoD. COT also hosts workshops or symposia and communicates through various other means with representatives of DoD and other agencies to keep abreast of developing requirements and problems, emerging issues, and newly initiated research and technology.
