This project will produce a guidebook for states and districts that builds on Monitoring Educational Equity, a consensus study published in 2019 by the National Academies that identifies 16 indicators of educational equity from preK through grade 12. The guidebook will explain how these indicators fit together as a system and describe what to measure for each indicator, including the types of data that should be collected, with illustrations from specific states and districts. The National Academies will use the guidebook to talk with interested states, districts, and other stakeholders about the next steps towards building an indicator system.

Description
The Committee on National Statistics will develop and disseminate a 50-60 page guidebook based on the 2019 consensus study Monitoring Educational Equity, which recommends a set of indicators related to educational equity. The guidebook will make the content of the report more accessible and actionable by state and district offices of education by (1) explaining how the recommended indicators can inform policy and practice related to equity and (2) illustrating how states and districts can implement the indicators recommended in Monitoring Educational Equity using available data. Extended dissemination efforts will seek to deeply engage relevant stakeholders with the content of the guidebook and build momentum for further development and adoption of the indicators.
