Inspired by the three-part virtual workshop series on Addressing Health Disparities in Central Nervous Systems Disorders, a planning committee of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine organized and conducted a two-hour public workshop. The workshop discussion convened neuroscientists to explore opportunities to mitigate health disparities in brain disorders through basic science methodologies and research approaches.
Invited presentations and discussions:

Explored key issues in health disparities for central nervous system disorders and opportunities for contributors within the neuroscience community (e.g., researchers, journal editors, and funders) to address them.
Reflected on potential areas of implicit bias (e.g., in research questions, methodologies, and neurotechnology) and strategies to reduce their impact.
Discussed the scientific importance of and barriers to utilizing biological material from populations that have been historically underrepresented in neuroscience research.
Considered approaches and the scientific value to engaging people with lived experience (e.g., people with brain disorders and caregivers) throughout the research process.

A planning committee developed the agenda for the workshop, selected and invited speakers and discussants, and moderated the discussions. A proceedings in brief of the presentations and discussions at the workshop will be prepared by a designated rapporteur in accordance with institutional guidelines.
