Lessons for Managing Transboundary Water Vulnerabilities - A Workshop Series

In progress

Any project, supported or not by a committee, that is currently being worked on or is considered active, and will have an end date.

As part of the AccelNet PEER2PEER program, this workshop series convenes water experts from the United States, Middle East, Central Asia, and Africa to focus on strategies that enhance integrated water resources management, resilience and adaptation, capacity building, and innovation. The first workshop was held in California in 2024 and explored approaches to develop an assessment framework for identifying, averting, and adapting to transboundary system vulnerabilities. The second workshop will take place in Tanzania in June 2026 and will explore techniques and technologies for transboundary management. The third will focus on issues of paramount importance in the MENA region.

Description

A committee of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine will organize a workshop series on "Lessons for Managing Transboundary Water Vulnerabilities" as part of the AccelNet PEER2PEER program. The workshops will bring together water experts from the United States, the Middle East, Central Asia and Africa to discuss strategies to enhance integrated water resources management, resilience and adaptation, capacity building and innovation, and promising practices for successful international collaboration. The first workshop was held in Irvine, California in 2024 and explored methods to build a comprehensive assessment framework for identifying, averting, and adapting to transboundary water system vulnerabilities in Central Asia and beyond. The second workshop will take place in Dar es Salaam in June 2026 and will explore advanced techniques and technologies for transboundary water resources management. The third, tentatively in Egypt or Jordan, will focus on issues of paramount importance in the MENA region. Each workshop will result in a Proceedings-in-Brief.
