National Science Foundation Sub-Workshop Activity

Group Formation and Instructions (5 minutes)

  • Introduction of group facilitators
  • Check handout for group lists
  • Meet in group rooms
  • Have principal investigator and partner assessments ready to share
  • Identify at least one notetaker

Placing the Needs at the Hub (10 minutes)

  • Principal investigators: briefly introduce themselves and share their assessments
  • Partners: listen and note areas of overlap with possible support
  • Partners: acknowledge needs heard and ask for clarification or elaboration, if needed
  • Notetakers: summarize list of needs

Wraparound Support (20 minutes)

  • Partners: briefly introduce themselves and share their assessments
  • Principal investigators: listen and note areas of overlap with possible needs
  • Principal investigators: acknowledge possible support heard and ask for clarification or elaboration, if needed
  • Notetakers: summarize list of needs and support

Identifying and Addressing Gaps (5 minutes)

  • Each group member acknowledges possible gaps between needs and support (list)
  • Popcorn ideas about possible ways that funding from the National Science Foundation or other agencies could help address them, if known (list)
  • Notetakers: summarize list of gaps and possible solutions

The Idea: Elevator Pitch (15 minutes)

  • Working together, develop an elevator pitch to a National Science Foundation Program Officer (for example):
