Roundtable on the Communication and Use of Social and Behavioral Sciences
The mission of the roundtable is to support the communication and use of reliable and relevant scientific research for addressing important societal issues. While focused on topics that pertain to social and behavioral sciences (SBS), roundtable activities often will speak to the communication and use of research from all science. The roundtable brings together SBS researchers and critical stakeholders to:
- Improve the supply of SBS research that can meet the needs of decision-makers;
- Identify and apply ways to communicate SBS research effectively.
Completed
Any project, supported or not by a committee, that has not deposited records to the Records Office.
Description
The NRC will convene a Roundtable on the Application of Social and Behavioral Science (SBS) Research that will facilitate and enhance discussion of the vitality and validity of the social and behavioral sciences in various applications and contexts and their value to the scientific enterprise, to public policy, and to the nation’s well-being. Roundtable discussions will focus on an integration of the perspectives of those who produce SBS knowledge, those who use it, and those involved in communicating it, in order to facilitate continued development and sharing of useful applications and lessons learned. Meetings of the Roundtable will identify ways to increase the use of SBS research findings and to distill lessons for future priorities for the field. The Roundtable may also generate ideas for additional, related NRC activities, such as workshops or consensus studies on the teaching and learning of SBS in K-12 education. All activities of the Roundtable will be conducted in accordance with institutional guidelines described in "Roundtables: Policy and Procedures," and separate GBEC approval will be sought for other activities.
