One Health Action Collaborative
Supported by the Forum on Microbial Threats at the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, the One Health Action Collaborative (OHAC) brings together experts from across human, veterinary, plant and environmental health to put forward strategies for unifying these disciplines in healthcare systems, disease surveillance networks, and the minds of the public at large. OHAC members brainstorm, discuss, and disseminate new ideas aimed at shifting and amplifying the conversation around One Health and its role in the health systems of the future.

Description
About
The One Health Action Collaborative (OHAC) is an ad hoc activity associated with the Forum on Microbial Threats at the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine. The action collaborative is an opportunity to engage a community of participants who are interested in contributing to ongoing exploration and information sharing related to One Health topics and accelerating the implementation of a One Health approach in the field. Participants come from multiple sectors and disciplines associated with One Health.
The work of the action collaborative does not necessarily represent the views of any one organization, the Forum, or the National Academies and is not subjected to the review procedures of, nor are they a report or product of, the National Academies.
Objectives
Through ongoing dialogue and information sharing, the action collaborative’s objectives are to:
• Discuss the current understanding of high risk interfaces for pathogen spillover from animals into people;
• Review best practices and valuable lessons in integrating the One Health approach in outbreak preparedness and response;
• Develop ideas for expanding and linking One Health efforts to plant and environmental health;
• Identify priorities, effective strategies, and creative solutions for preventing and controlling emerging disease threats; and
• Inspire policy decisions and encourage global and local health capacity investments that would advance One Health efforts.
In all, the expected outcome is to help facilitate and refine the implementation of the One Health approach needed to leverage existing programs and to better target effective detection, diagnosis, intervention, and prevention of microbial threats.
