TRB Webinar: Ruggedness Testing—Evaluating Asphalt Mixture Cracking Resistance

Cracking is a primary distress mode of asphalt pavements that creates the need for their rehabilitation. Laboratory testing is designed to evaluate cracking; however, an NCHRP report recommends revisions to all cracking test methods evaluated. TRB hosted a webinar on Monday, December 5, 2022 from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM Eastern that presented the results of ruggedness testing of for the cracking resistance of asphalt mixes. Presenters highlighted eight laboratory tests and revisions to the test methods. The webinar is of interest to engineers in state and local transportation agencies and in industry with responsibility for evaluating the performance of asphalt mixes. Testing methods for all types of asphalt pavement cracking—thermal, reflection, fatigue, and topdown— were explored.
