National Academies Presidents Commemorate 25th Anniversary of 9/11

Statement

On the 25th anniversary of 9/11, we join our fellow Americans in pausing to remember all who were lost and to think of their families.  At the same time, we recall the bravery and heroic sacrifices of first responders and ordinary citizens on that tragic day.  We honor those who served in the military after 9/11 to fight terrorism, as well as all those now in uniform who continue to defend our freedoms.

PNAS Celebrates the Lasker Awards

Announcement

A series of perspectives in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences reflects on the work of this year’s Lasker Awards recipients, including NAS/NAM member Emmanuel Mignot and NAS member Masashi Yanagisawa. The other winners are Kunihiro Hattori, Tomoyuki Igawa, and Takehisa Kitazawa, as well as actor Michael J. Fox, who was recognized for the research funded by his Parkinson’s disease foundation.

The National Academies Welcome 2026 Mirzayan Fellows

News Release

Early-career researchers selected for the 2026 Christine Mirzayan Science and Technology Policy Graduate Fellowship program, who recently began their 12-week assignments at the National Academies, will learn firsthand about science and technology policy as they work closely with scientists, engineers, and medical professionals helping the National Academies address some of the most pressing challenges facing our nation and the world.
