AI for Scientific Discovery — Oct. 12-13 Workshop

A National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine workshop will explore how artificial intelligence can be used to conduct research and pursue scientific discovery autonomously. AI and computer science experts from private industry, federal science agencies, and research institutions will examine what it means for AI to perform research autonomously, where AI technology currently stands, the gaps and hurdles that will need to be overcome to achieve autonomous scientific discovery, and which scientific disciplines should invest more in using AI.
The workshop will also explore the ethical aspects and potential pitfalls of using autonomous AI in science, next steps for the research community, and grand challenges for AI in science.
