Childhood vaccines have the long-established benefits of preventing illness and averting death. The pandemic led to significant disruptions in routine childhood immunizations for a variety of reasons, including interruptions in health care services and concerns about exposure to COVID-19.

A new rapid expert consultation from the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine identifies key strategies for promoting childhood vaccination, with a focus on populations with lower vaccination rates.

The document points to strategies such as tailoring vaccine messages so that they take culture, belief, and religion into account, and practical considerations like reminders and convenience for parents.
