New Report Assesses Coast Guard’s Vessel Stability Safety Regulations

The U.S. Coast Guard has safety regulatory oversight pertaining to vessel stability with standards that should respond to and improve with technological advances. However, some provisions have become difficult to understand, have not incorporated new capabilities of modern technology, or have been superseded by international standards.
A new report from the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine reviews the Coast Guard safety regulations for vessel stability and recommends options to improve their organization and clarity.
