Description
The National Academies Board on Science, Technology, and Economic Policy will establish a new forum to be called the Innovation Policy Forum. The purpose of the Forum will be to act as a focal point for a national and international dialogue on innovation policy. The Forum will bring together representatives of government, industry, national laboratories, research institutes and universities -- foreign and domestic -- to exchange views on current challenges and opportunities for U.S. innovation policy and to learn about the goals, instruments, funding levels, and results of national and regional programs and discuss their lessons for U.S. policy and potential impact on the composition of the U.S. economy. The Forum will provide the opportunity to regularly exchange information on current and potential policy initiatives to advance innovation and the development of the knowledge economy in the United States and abroad. The Forum's U.S. membership will determine agenda topics, which will likely span a broad range of issues. The Forum may commission papers to inform its discussions and may suggest topics for public workshops. Proposals for workshops will be submitted individually for GBEC approval and will be planned by separately appointed planning committees. All activities of the Forum will be conducted in accordance with the institutional policies and procedures regarding roundtables.
