All commiteee members were present at the start of the closed session on June 25th with the exception of Corrie Brown,Nirmal Ganguly,Mark Nichter,and John Brownstein. Attendance was the same for the closed lunch session on June 25th. On June 26th, all members were present at the closed lunch and dinner sessions with the exception of Corrie Brown,Mark Nichter,Nirmal Ganguly,and Kenneth Hill (absent at lunch session only). All committee members with the exception of Corrie Brown,Nirmal Ganguly,and Mark Nichter were present for the closed session meeting on Friday, June 27, 2008.

The following topics were discussed in the closed sessions:

For the morning of June 25th, an overview of the National Academies and the IOM were presented, and the COI/BI discussion was held for all members present. For the closed lunch session on June 25th, the commitee discussed presentations from the morning's open sessions. For the closed dinner session on June 25th, the committee deliberated on the presentations from thr first day and began to identify other expertise they may need to consult during the course of deliberations. On June 26th, the closed lunch session resumed discussions from dinner about expertise external to the committee that would be needed. For the closed session of June 27th, the COI/BI dicussion was held with John Brownstein. Other topics discussed in this closed session include the role of committee members and the NAS process, the statement of task, the study timeline, demonstration on the use of a Community Portal established for the commitee's use, external expertise needed for committee and mechanism for such (more speaker presentations, unpaid consultant appointed to commitee, or new member added to commiteee), deliberations of materials and data presented during the workshop, and a preliminary outline of the report that will be produced by the committee.
