The consensus study, Developing Assessments for the Next Generation Science Standards” (NRC, 2014), provides guidance on developing assessments that are consistent with the NGSS including assessments tied to classroom instruction and assessment systems used for accountability. This activity translates and summarizes the conclusions and recommendations of the consensus report in accessible language and provides a more detailed discussion of classroom-based assessment drawing on the relevant chapters in the consensus study.
