CISAC’s Cyber Security Working Group, established in cooperation with the Computer Science and Telecommunications Board, addresses cyber issues that affect U.S. strategic security relationships by engaging cybersecurity experts in other countries. These bilateral discussions focus on technical aspects of security and policy frameworks that guide cyber offensive and defensive operations, seeking to inform policymakers, promote mutual understanding, offer policy options, and lay the foundations for cooperation, where appropriate. Topics include cyber policy/actions, cyber crisis management, and the intersection of cyber capabilities and vulnerabilities with other domains, such as nuclear, space, conventional military, artificial intelligence in military systems, and critical infrastructure.
Description
The Cyber Security Working Group of the National Academies Committee on International Security and Arms Control (CISAC) engages through the CISAC dialogues with cyber security experts in other countries to address cyber issues that affect the strategic security relationships between the United States and other nations. These discussions include cyber policy and actions, cyber crisis management, and the intersection of cyber capabilities and vulnerabilities with other domains, such as nuclear, space, conventional military, artificial intelligence in military systems, critical infrastructure, and societal function. As in other aspects of the CISAC dialogues, CISAC utilizes the unique status of the Academies to make progress on difficult security issues at and often beyond the frontiers of what nations are able to explore on a government-to-government basis. CISAC focuses on technical aspects of security, and seeks to inform policymakers, promote mutual understanding, offer policy options, and lay the foundations for cooperation, where appropriate
The Cyber Security Working Group was established in cooperation with the National Academies Computer Science and Telecommunications Board and continues with that connection.
