Army Science and Technology Roundtable
The US Army, in the midst of several new initiatives set to help small businesses cross the defense acquisitions “valley of death,” has a strong interest in expanding its industrial base. To assess how to best widen this network, this roundtable series will facilitate candid dialogues among academia, relevant Army offices, and businesses large and small, including those that are minority-, women-, and veteran-owned. Dialogue will center around promoting efficiencies, streamlining pathways for involvement, and strengthening the enterprise’s unity of effort.

Description
The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine will convene a roundtable under the Board on Army Research and Development to explore research and acquisition related issues of interest to the Army. The Roundtable will convene leaders from government, industry, and academia to define and explore the following three themes that are critical to the Army’s research and acquisition efforts:
1) Provide a forum to share science and technology (S&T) priorities and improve the synergy and harmonization between government, industry research and development, and academia programs.
2) Examine actionable opportunities, particularly those for prime vendors, to widen the community of interest that contributes to Army research and technology (R&T), thereby improving participation of small, disadvantaged, minority, and veteran-owned businesses and research institutions.
3) Discuss SBIR, xTech, and other emerging research initiatives of interest to the sponsor, to ensure they promote the best chances for technology transfer into warfighter systems.
This roundtable will be designed to facilitate candid dialogue among participants, share best practices to promote efficiencies, and strengthen the enterprise’s unity of effort. It will also complement activities undertaken by the Department of the Air Force Science and Technology Roundtable.
