Updated Tip sheet for US-based Psychology Journals

This document includes key suggestions from participants at a June 2021 workshop for psychological science journal editors about how to increase international perspectives in U.S.-based psychology journals. The workshop was organized by the U.S. National Committee for Psychological Science of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine. USNC Chair elected President of Society for Research in Child Development

Jennifer E. Lansford, Ph.D has been elected to a six year term and will take office immediately following the 2023 Biennial meeting. The president serves for a total of six years: two years each as president-elect, president, and past-president. Dr. Lansford is a member of the Board on International Science Organizations committee and serves as president of the U.S. National Committee for Psychological Science. She also chaired a 2021 workshop for journal editors hosted by the U.S. National Academies that focused on how psychological science journals can encompass diverse perspectives by supporting scholars, peer-review, and high-quality science. The webinar on Implicit Bias in the Publication Process: Evidence and Opportunities has been posted for viewing. This event was co-sponsored by U.S. National Committee for Psychological Science (USNC/IUPsyS) and Society for Research in Child Development. It featured Dr. Joseph M. Williams, Associate Professor, School of Education and Human Development, University of Virginia.

Emerging Psychologists' Programme Open for Applications*

ICP 2024 will feature an Emerging Psychologists’ Programme as an integral part of the scientific programme. The Emerging Psychologists’ Programme is intended to enhance communication between Emerging Psychologists from different countries and diverse cultural backgrounds, to promote the exchange of knowledge between established and younger scientists, and to help younger scientists acquire new insights into specific fields of psychology and psychology in general. Who is eligible to apply for EPP? Those who are working on their PhD thesis or are on a postdoctoral fellowship and want to become leading scholars in psychology. Please follow the updated information regarding the application and guidelines on the ICP 2024 website and social media. Webinar: International Perspectives in U.S. Psychological Science Journals

In June 2021, the U.S. National Committee for Psychological Science convened a workshop focusing on ways to improve the engagement and representation of researchers from around the world in U.S.-based psychological science journals. The presentations, panels, and discussions that took place during the workshop have been summarized in a proceedings-in-brief document (hyperlink). In an effort to further the conversation, The U.S. National Committee for Psychological Science is hosting a webinar to bring together workshop speakers, panelists, and members of the community to engage in a productive dialogue. Elizabeth Loftus wins IUPsyS Lifetime Achievement Award*

Elizabeth Loftus, PhD, member of the National Academy of Sciences, has been awarded the IUPsyS Lifetime Achievement Award in 2021 for “distinguished and enduring lifetime contributions to advancing knowledge in psychology.” Dr. Loftus is a Distinguished Professor of Psychological Science and Law at the University of California, Irvine. An IUPsyS Webinar for New Authors With the Editor-in-Chief and Associate Editors of the International Journal of Psychology*

This exciting webinar hosted by the International Union of Psychological Science (IUPsyS) is aimed at new researchers. A panel, consisting of the Editor-in-Chief and Associate Editors of the International Journal of Psychology (IJP), will provide practical advice on how to get your research findings published, including the steps and processes from starting to draft to submitting a paper to a journal for publication. IUPSYS - U.S. Responses to the IUPsyS COVID-19 Emergency Response Survey Published

Event - Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Psychology Interview on NPR*

Abigail Gewirtz, child psychologist and Editor-in-Chief of the IUPsyS flagship journal The International Journal of Psychology was interviewed on NPR on May 3, 2020. In this eight-minute interview, Dr. Gewirtz discusses the pandemic's impact on child development, including isolation's effect on socialization and mental health. IUPSYS - IJP Special Issue Call for Papers: COVID-19*

The purpose of the Special Issue is to encourage and publish new research on the psychological implications of the unfolding crisis for society, populations, groups, and individuals, as well as prevention and intervention efforts. IUPsyS particularly welcomes empirical papers, but papers initiating and explicating new, pressing research agendas for global psychology are also applicable. IUPSYS Call for Papers on COVID-19*

The International Union of Psychological Science is calling for papers on issues related to the current COVID-19 pandemic. Suggested topics include psychological effects of misinformation, stereotyping and stigmatization, and psychological stress management. Abstracts must be under 500 words and submitted by May 1, 2020. The 2020 ICP was originally scheduled to be held in Prague, Czech Republic, in July 2020.
