Artificial Intelligence at the Nexus of Collaboration, Competition, and Change: A Workshop

The Government-University-Industry Research Roundtable will convene for a workshop to consider how research sectors can work together to shape AI policy and governance, strengthen cooperation in addressing AI-driven innovation, and how AI-driven technology will affect the workforce of today and tomorrow. Participants will explore the many facets of AI affecting not just the represented research sectors, but society as large. A proceedings-in-brief will follow the workshop.

Description

A planning committee of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine will organize a workshop to consider the effects of the artificial intelligence (AI) revolution on the regulatory environment, speed and scale of commercialization, and early workforce development. Senior leaders from government, university, and industry will convene to discuss ways to strengthen domestic and international cooperation, address competition concerns and challenges, consider regulatory and ethical frameworks, and review the impact of AI on workforce skills and institutional culture. A rapporteur-authored proceedings-in brief will be published summarizing the workshop.
