TRB Webinar: Performance-Based Management of Traffic Signals

May 28, 2020

2:00 PM - 3:30 PM (EDT)

Past

Traffic signal operation depends upon many factors. TRB is hosting a webinar on Thursday, May 28, 2020 from 2:00 to 3:30 PM Eastern that will describe performance-based approaches that many agencies have adopted to operate their traffic signals. The presenters will identify current practices in planning, designing, installing, and operating these systems. They will also discuss reporting on system performance, identify how to prioritize locations for signal improvements, and describe how to estimate resources needed for repairs.

This webinar draws on research from the National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP).

The presentation recording is available.

Webinar agenda and presenters

  1. Reasons to consider performance-based signal operations: Alison Tanaka, Portland, Oregon Department of Transportation
  2. Practices in the guidebook: Philip Rust, City of San Diego
  3. Experiences from agencies that have deployed practices: Mark Taylor, Utah Department of Transportation
  4. Question and answer session: Moderated by Darcy Bullock, Purdue University
