TRB Webinar: Emerging Challenges for Congestion Pricing on Managed Lanes

March 24, 2021

2:00 PM - 3:30 PM (EDT)

Past

There is often a disparity between the goals that state departments of transportation have for priced managed lanes and the public assumption for those goals. The public tends to be skeptical of priced managed lanes because the concept is difficult to explain to a non-technical audience. TRB hosted a webinar on Wednesday, March 24, 2021 from 2:00-3:30 PM Eastern that described agency experiences about implementing priced managed lanes. Presenters provided specific case examples and lessons learned.

This webinar was sponsored by the TRB Standing Committee on Managed Lanes. It will also feature research from NCHRP Synthesis Report 559: Emerging Challenges to Priced Managed Lanes.

The recording is available.
Webinar agenda and presenters

  1. Performance management issues that stem from a maximum toll cap: Susan Shaw, Virginia Department of Transportation
  2. Enforcing carpools and other toll-exempt vehicles: Dan Lamers, North Central Texas Council of Governments

The first 60 minutes of the webinar will be for presentations and the final 30 minutes will be reserved for audience questions.

  1. Determine how to educate the public about implementing priced managed lane projects
