Maintenance and other field workers are exposed to hazards that require a higher level of management than traditional office-based positions within state departments of transportation (DOTs). TRB hosted a webinar on Thursday, February 9, 2023 from 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM Eastern that explored the national state of practice and trends on the use of safety management systems to manage maintenance worker safety. Presenters also provided a perspective from a national DOT leader in the area of safety and practices for managing heat stress.
