History, Consequences, and Effects of Race-Based Clinical Algorithms on Health Equity
July 6
This workshop will convene a diverse group of experts to discuss the history and development of race-based clinical algorithms and their contribution to health inequities. Speakers will explore underlying assumptions of racial differences in physiology, and when identifying race and ethnicity as social constructs are legitimate considerations for improving health equity.
Automated Road Transportation
July 9-13
This symposium, taking place in San Francisco, will convene transportation thought leaders from the academic, industry, government, and research communities to discuss advancements in road transportation automation, with a focus on issues impacting the U.S. Department of Transportation and state DOTs.
Understanding and Addressing Misinformation about Science
July 10 and 11
This meeting will discuss misinformation in the context of science and implications for addressing misinformation given advancements in information technology, such as artificial intelligence and machine learning.
Climate Crossroads
July 11 and 12
To meet the challenges posed by climate change, the nation and the world must harness the full complement of knowledge and skills across science, engineering, and medicine. This summit of the National Academies’ new Climate Crossroads initiative will bring together leaders from many disciplines to discuss how to catalyze action among a diverse range of stakeholders and decision-makers.
Unequal Treatment Revisited
July 12 and 13
This workshop on racial and ethnic inequities in health care will include a roundtable discussion about community experiences, and sessions that share perspectives from patients, families, clinicians, and health care organizations.
Transportation Law
July 23-26
This 62nd annual gathering on transportation law, taking place in Richmond, Virginia, will discuss significant developments in transportation law and policy. Workshops will cover current issues, including environmental compliance, land use, and transit operations, and feature representatives from the Federal Railroad Administration, Federal Highway Administration, Federal Transit Administration, and others.
Transportation Resilience and Climate Change Challenges
July 26
Businesses and state agencies have been improving the resilience of transportation systems to climate change and extreme weather impacts. This webinar, covering a range of climate and resilience issues, will include speakers from the U.S. Department of Transportation, Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, and Arizona Department of Transportation.
Reports Scheduled for Release in July
Release dates for the following consensus reports and proceedings from the National Academies depend on successful completion of the review process and publishing schedules. Federal Policy to Advance Racial, Ethnic, and Tribal Health Equity
This report presents an analysis of federal policy that contributes to differences in health status and outcomes among racial and ethnic minority populations in the U.S., identifying promising approaches and recommendations for policy change to advance health equity.
