The Action Collaborative brings together leaders from academic and research institutions and key stakeholders to collaboratively work toward and share targeted actions on addressing and preventing sexual harassment across all disciplines and among all people in higher education.

Sexual Harassment Collaborative Repository

This repository contains descriptions of the most significant, innovative actions that participating organizations in the Action Collaborative on Preventing Sexual Harassment in Higher Education have taken. This self-reported information is shared to help higher education organizations develop, adapt, and implement efforts that move beyond basic legal compliance and toward evidence-based policies and practices for addressing and preventing all forms of sexual harassment for all people in higher education and promoting a campus climate of civility and respect.

Frequently Asked Questions

A rubric was created to help organizations identify areas of work that are consistent with the findings and recommendations from the National Academies 2018 Sexual Harassment of Women report, as well as opportunities to innovate and pilot new work. Using the rubric, Action Collaborative organizations were asked to describe their most significant, innovative efforts. Such work was required to:
1. Connect to NASEM Report: Be consistent with the findings and recommendations of the Sexual Harassment of Women report as outlined under each area of work in the Rubric;
2. Reflect Work Being Done: Be in the process of finalizing a plan/action, currently being implemented, or implemented; and
3. Fit Timeline Criteria: By either being:
  a. New for the organization (created, implemented, or revised within the last year)
  b. New or uncommon for higher education (created, implemented, or revised in the last three years)
Not necessarily. These descriptions of work are self-reported by Action Collaborative organizations, and were not evaluated by the National Academies to determine if they are promising or best practices. However, it is possible that some are. Moving forward, the Action Collaborative will be working to identify and publish those that meet specific criteria, allowing them to be reclassified as an “innovative practice”, “promising practice”, or “evidence-based practice”. The process of making these determinations will entail an external review, involving experts, practitioners, and other stakeholders within the higher education community, to ensure the practices meet the criteria.
