Description
The InterAcademy Partnership (IAP) is a network of 150 national, regional, and global member academies that work together to support the vital role of science in seeking evidence-based solutions to the world’s most challenging problems. IAP's programs and projects align with its three primary strategic goals of capacity building for academies, providing high quality scientific advice, and promoting science education and outreach. Science-policy topics that IAP has been involved with over the years include but are not limited to climate change and aspects of biodiversity, food security, and research evaluation. IAP’s member academies constitute more than 30,000 leading scientists, engineers, and health professionals in over 100 countries. The National Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Medicine are members of IAP.
Much of IAP’s work involves its four regional networks, for Africa (Network of African Science Academies, NASAC), the Americas (Inter-American Network of Academies of Sciences, IANAS), Asia (The Association of Academies and Societies of Sciences in Asia, AASSA), and Europe (European Academies’ Science Advisory Council, EASAC).
IAP’s secretariat offices are hosted by the National Academy of Sciences in Washington, DC, and The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS), in Trieste, Italy. Secretariat staff welcome the opportunity to discuss with academies’ leadership and staff how IAP can assist with disseminating academy reports of global interest, identifying international experts to serve on committees, engaging with international audiences, and connecting with other member academies and regional networks.
