Established by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine under the Institute for Laboratory Animal Research, the RoundtableonScienceandWelfare of Animals Involved in Researchprovides a neutral forum to stimulate dialogue, catalyze movement around an issue, and collaborate among those interested in promoting more effective, efficient, and humane use of animals in research, testing, and education.

The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine maintains the Roundtable on Science and Welfare of Animals Involved in Research as an authoritative resource and collaborative body for the scientific community on animals involved in research. It brings together diverse experts from across disciplines, sectors, and organizations, that include government, industry, advocacy, professional societies, academic institutions, and others. The Roundtable’s focus is on research needed to improve the health of humans, animals, the environment, and their interdependencies. Experts and interested parties convene to share and discuss scientific and contemporary topics related to research involving animals.
The primary objectives of the Roundtable are to:
- Promote good science and responsible research endeavors in all investigative settings.
- Act as a resource to the community performing research involving animals.
- Advocate for practices that facilitate scientifically and ethically sound research.
- Champion replacements, reductions, and refinements.
