Our Expertise

The Life Sciences and Biotechnology program area convenes leading experts in the biological, environmental, and health sciences to provide independent advice and advance cross-sector understanding of life sciences and their applications. Our work spans issues in biomedical research, biotechnology, agriculture, ecology, and the responsible use of animals in research and conservation.

We bring together scientists, engineers, ethicists, and policymakers to examine emerging opportunities and challenges — from safeguarding the U.S. bioeconomy to assessing biotechnology risks and guiding innovations in health.

Description

Addresses technical, societal, and policy issues of research at scales from intracellular level to plants, animals, and complex, interconnected ecosystems and on designing and engineering biological molecules and living systems. Emphasizes the convergence of life sciences with engineering, computer science, and materials science to drive innovations in advance public health, agriculture, and other fields.
