Impact and Control of Valley Fever - A Workshop

Completed

Coccidioidomycosis, or “Valley fever”, is a fungal disease caused by inhalation of Coccidioides spores from the soil. This fungus, generally found in arid environments in the southwestern US and Latin America, can cause severe debilitating, and sometimes fatal, illness in humans and animals. Despite the public health burden of this disease, a lack of research investment has led to limited options for treatment and control. This workshop will convene experts to discuss the epidemiology and public health impact of Valley Fever, as well as opportunities to facilitate development of diagnostics, therapeutics, and vaccines.
