An ad hoc committee will plan and conduct a one and a half-day public workshop that will feature invited presentations and discussions that will explore the factors that contribute to low African American male participation in the medical profession, the current strategies used to increase participation in medical education, and new strategies that may have the potential to increase participation.
The committee will define the specific topics to be addressed, develop the agenda, and select and invite speakers and other participants. A proceedings of the joint workshop will be prepared by a designated rapporteur in accordance with institutional guidelines.
This workshop is joint with the W. Montague Cobb/NMA Health Institute (Cobb Institute) whose aim is to develop, evaluate, and implement strategies to promote wellness and eliminate health disparities and racism in medicine.
