This workshop explored the role of physical activity in obesity treatment, body weight and adiposity management, and related health outcomes in adults with overweight or obesity. The workshop considered how physical activity can be incorporated into obesity treatment strategies to enhance regulation of body weight and adiposity, and in turn, improve both weight and non-weight dependent health outcomes that include and extend beyond traditional measures of fitness. Speakers addressed physical activity as a core component of intensive lifestyle interventions, and as an adjunct to other obesity treatments such as pharmacotherapy and bariatric surgery. Further, the workshop addressed the policies, systems, and environments that support physical activity in communities, along with implications for clinical practice. Perspectives incorporated throughout the workshop included the lived experience regarding physical activity and exercise.
