The National Academies Forum on Advancing Diagnostic Excellence will host a public hybrid workshop to explore opportunities for engaging patients, caregivers, and families in the diagnostic process to improve patient safety and reduce diagnostic errors. Discussion topics may include: educating and empowering patients and families to actively participate in diagnosis; integrating shared decision-making; leveraging technology and diagnostic innovations to better understand symptoms and inform clinical decisions; training health professionals to strengthen communication and collaboration with patients; and assessing the impact of engagement on the diagnostic process and health outcomes.
