Chapter: 6 Congressional Testimony
Members of Space Studies Board committees may be invited to testify before committees of the U.S. House of Representatives or the U.S. Senate about the findings and recommendations of their reports. During 2010, two hearings were held where members of the SSB family testified to Congress. Links to their prepared statements are provided below.
A. Thomas Young, vice chair of the Space Studies Board testified on February 24 at a hearing entitled “Challenges and Opportunities in the NASA FY 2011 Budget Proposal” before the Science and Space Subcommittee of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation. Also testifying at the Senate hearing were Charles F. Bolden, Jr., Administrator, NASA; Robert “Hoot” Gibson, Astronaut (retired); Michael J. Snyder, aerospace engineer; and Miles O’Brien, journalist and host of This Week in Space. Testimony and prepared statements are available at http://commerce.senate.gov/.
Mr. Young also testified on March 24 at a hearing entitled “Proposed Changes to NASA’s Exploration Program: What’s Known, What’s Not, and What are the Issues for Congress?” before the Subcommittee on Space and Aeronautics of the House Committee on Science and Technology. Also testifying at the House hearing was Douglas Cooke, associate administrator, NASA Exploration Systems Mission Directorate.
